EXCLUSIVE DAY
Custom Education Foundation, Gersh Academy, and their partners are transforming Six Flags Great Adventure into a sensory-friendly environment where individuals on the autism spectrum, their educators, friends, and families can enjoy the day together.
Most individuals on the autism spectrum struggle with processing sensory information, becoming overloaded by touch, taste, sight and sound. It can make it extremely difficult for families with children on the spectrum to visit places like amusement parks. Custom Ed operates with the mission to remove those obstacles and enable all children to enjoy a day at the park! No amusement park the size of Six Flags Great Adventure has ever been transformed into a sensory-friendly environment!
For more information and to find out how to get your school involved please email: events@customeducationfoundation.org.
Custom Education transforming the park:
- Designated decompression areas, stocked with sensory friendly items like iPads, will be set up throughout the park, available only on the event day.
- Adjustments to the lights and music making it friendlier for our event attendees*
- Meet your national & local autism community! Learn what support, resources and services are available to you and your family.
- Special presentations throughout the day from high-profile professionals in the field of autism.
- In addition to Six Flags staff, a limited number of highly-trained special education staff from the Gersh Academy will be available throughout the park all day to assist families in whatever they may need.
*Please note that while every attempt has been made to create a sensory-friendly environment, due to the nature of the park some lights and sounds may still be present.

- Can we purchase tickets the day of the event?
In our efforts to make the event more enjoyable for guests that may become overwhelmed by sights, sounds and crowds, we are imposing a soft-cap on the amount of guests for this event. Due to the strong response we have already received, we strongly recommend purchasing tickets ahead of time. In the event that we do not reach our cap, tickets may be purchased at the gates.
- Will there be a rain date for this event?
In the event that inclement weather causes the event to be cancelled, all ticket holders will receive a full refund. There is no rain date set at this time.

- Will documentation for my child be needed the day of the event or for purchasing tickets?
We want this event to be a fun and inclusive event that individuals on the autism spectrum can share with their friends and families. We are not requiring any documentation to attend the event. We have worked the details to ensure the day is most beneficial to and attended by individuals on the autism spectrum.
- What sort of educational features can we expect?
We understand that a day of school can mean a lot to the development of a student on the autism spectrum. As such, we are working with Gersh Academy for Students on the Autism Spectrum to create an educational curriculum built into the day. Aside from various educational activities and games they can participate in, students can work with their teachers on proficiency exercises in common areas such as socialization, cognition, behavioral and more!
- Is there an age limit?
There is no age limit for the event. In fact, the event has something to offer all guests from toddlers to grandparents. Games, rides, activities and attractions are available for all age groups in attendance. Families and older guests can find resources and services throughout the day as local autism-related groups and organizations will be in attendance around the park to assist families and connect them with services in their area.
